Vernon Everett Boat Match League Rules.  

1.  All competitors must be a LDSFC member. 2.  Each angler will be required to commit to 5 of the 7 matches.   Any other anglers will be designated reserves for the series. 3.  There will be seven matches, of which the best six will count.  In the event that some of the matches are cancelled, a minimum of four matches must be finished before a match can be dropped.  They are all to be fished within club waters. 4.  If a charter boat breaks down the scores on all boats will be void if under 3 hours. 5.  All matches will be fished unless severe weather is predicted, in which case anglers will be notified of the match cancellation. 6.  Best results count if one or more matches are cancelled due to adverse weather for example. 7.  A percentage score system will be used (for overall league).  Percentages on each boat will be calculated from the highest CLUB angler.  In the event that more than one guest angler is fishing on the same day, they need to be spread across the boats evenly. 8. All matches will be a minimum of three hours in duration, weather permitting. 9.  At the beginning of each competition the charter skipper will give anglers a safety briefing.  The skipper will advise the locations to be fished, with estimated times at each location, subject to the conditions of the day. 10. The charter skipper will announce the start and stop times at each location. 11. Boats will be allocated a minimum of 5 anglers.  Boat positions will be drawn within the week prior to each match. 12. Each competitor’s duties will include the following:- Ensure score cards are checked at the end of each location.  Any dispute can be verified at this point.  Once the Start signal has been announced the points cannot be changed for any previous fishing session within that day’s competition Ensure all rules are obeyed Liaison with the skipper Observing fishing start and finishing times Assisting the skipper with the identification of fish if so required 13. Each competitor is responsible for checking that the catch has been registered with the boat’s skipper.  It is his/her duty to make sure the skipper acknowledges their catch every time a fish is caught. 14. Competitors may only bring two rods on board, assembled with reels and only one of these rods with terminal tackle attached.  A maximum of THREE hooks is allowed per rod – no treble hooks. 15. There are extra bonus points for each different species of fish caught per angler, see chart.  The first FIVE fish caught of each species will score the maximum points and thereafter each fish of that same species will score ONE point.  A maximum of 10 fish per species. 16. All MINI SPECIES are identified individually and counted as separate species within the mini species category.  (10 tom pot blenny and 10 goby would attract 55 points plus 55 points).  17. Fish scores will be counted and bonus points added to determine match places as soon as possible after the match. 18. Any angler who blanks will not score any points. 19. Any grievances are to be raised with the boat steward (steward allocated prior to match), before returning to the pontoon, where all grievances will be dealt with and adjudicated by the commodore. 20. Wire line or wire traces are prohibited. 21. Foul hooked fish WILL count.  Fish must not be deliberately foul hooked.  Should a fish be hooked by more than one angler, it is the angler whose hook is in the fish’s mouth that is awarded the points.  Should more than one angler’s hooks be in the fish’s mouth, then no points will be awarded . 22. All fish caught will score the appropriate points, including mini species.  NO minimum sizes, NO weighing, NO measuring. 23. Bait will be supplied.  There must be no additives used.  Bait fish caught during the competition by any angler can be kept for their own use.  All tails must be docked on any intended bait fish at the point of capture. 24. A larger fish will count as soon as the skipper/crewman touches the trace ie. The trace is the monofilament that is connected to the hook attached to the fish, NOT the leader.  This will enable the fish to be safely released in the water.  This relates to congers, rays and tope.  All other fish have to be boated, any fish falling off before being boated will not count even if it falls off and bounces back into the water after hitting the gunwale. 25. Fishing tackle must be used in such a way as not to endanger other people.  Tackle and equipment must be kept within the allocated area and be safe and tidy. 26. All fish should be returned or designated to be retained before the angler is allowed to re-cast. 27. No overhead casting, underarm or roll casting only. 28. Rough weather risk assessment – If conditions cause doubt as to if it is safe to fish, the skipper and commodore will decide on an alternative location. 29. No alcohol will be allowed on board. 30. All competitors are responsible for their own safety and for ensuring that their actions do not affect the safety of others.  The boat commodore has the authority to disqualify any competitor from the competition who does not adhere to this requirement and from any subsequent events. 31. Any angler cancelling their booking within 14 days of the competition will be liable for the cost of their space unless it can be filled. 32. Species tally – prize money will be paid out as 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd on a 3:2: 1 ratio. 

BONUS POINTS 

  1st Vernon Everett Match League.

      On Saturday 11th April the club held the first match of the Vernon Everett  Match League aboard 'Piscary' and 'Silver Spray' out from Poole.  We left the harbour at 8a.m. with 18 club members.  The weather was not favourable and all the anglers wrapped up to combat the elements.  Despite the conditions being challenging, a respectable 17 species were caught across all the anglers.  A good day at sea despite the forecast and a lot of laughs and enjoyment aboard both boats.

2nd Vernon Everett Match League.

      On Saturday 2nd May the club held its second match of the Vernon Everett Match League aboard 'Piscary' and a late stand-in 'Strongbow' who offered to help the club at the last minute when another boat was unable to participate.  The 16 club members had a productive day that led to 19 species across the 2 boats.  Alively day filled with fish and laughs at sea.
