3rd Large Boat Competition report sent in by Marc Duncan.
The 3rd Large Boat competition was held on Sunday 14th April from Poole aboard "Ocean Runner" skippered by Ryan Jones. With perfect weather conditions we headed to the spoils in search of blonde rays. First drop saw Glynn Barker land a 15lbs blonde ray. Nelson Phillips had a conger before catching a blonde ray and Roland Blomfield landed two. Dave Wood had one at 11lbs 8oz and brother John had the best blonde ray of 15lbs 3oz. Jane Hopkins managed to land a nice bass. With the tide increasing we moved inshore in search of congers but unfortunately none showed. However, whilst fishing for them Pete Chamberlain did land a plaice! Next stop was for bream with nearly everyone catching their 10. Dave also caught a couple of ballan wrasse and we had a few dogfish. Final stop took us to the Half Bank where we had a few more dogfish and five smooth-hounds.
Results:
1st Dave Wood 129 points, 2nd Jane Hopkins 88 points, 3rd Roland Blomfield 87 points, 4th Glynn Barker 85 points and 5th Nelson Phillips 84 points.

2nd Large Boat Competition.
The 2nd Large Boat competition took place on Sunday 10th March. With perfect weather conditions and a last-minute change of venue we fished out from Poole aboard "Ocean Runner" skippered by Ryan Jones. The plan was to initially fish for rays and congers and then move to the 6-mile mark. This proved to be very challenging with nothing being caught, so the decision was made to up anchor. At this point several fish came over the gunwale with Pete Chamberlain catching a dab and a pouting. We then pushed east in search of congers. Dave Wood managed to catch 5 and John Wood caught 3. Most anglers managed to catch a conger. We then had a drift for plaice with Glynn Barker showing us how it was done. After a couple more moves and still no rays we moved to a mark for some pouting and wrasse with only a couple of pouting being caught. Malcolm Gerrish caught a 3 bearded rockling. Final stop saw us at the Half Bank where we had quite a few dogfish and Malcolm finally found a spotted ray. A good day was had by all blowing away the cobwebs, getting a line wet and checking our gear out!
Results:
1st Dave Wood 111 points, 2nd John Wood 97 points, 3rd Malcolm Gerrish 81 points, 4th Glynn Barker 80 points,
5th Pete Chamberlain 67 points.
