10th Large Boat Competition. Report sent in by Marc Duncan.
The club held its 10th and final 2025 Large Boat competition on Sunday 16th November from Poole aboard "Ocean Runner" skippered by Ryan Jones. 7 anglers ventured out with a breezy NE wind. First mark was for pouting and bream with most anglers getting their 10 pouting quickly. A couple of bream were caught and Marc Duncan had a couple of ballan wrasse. Another stop on the way out towards the Banks in search of congers and dogfish saw John Wood land a conger and Robin Lane land a dogfish. Once out on the banks 2 small eyed rays were caught by Marc and Robin and 4 blonde rays by Jane, Dave Wood and Malcolm Gerrish. Robin and Jane also caught a smooth-hound each. A few congers and dogfish were also caught and Jane topped up her score with bream. Moving back inshore to the last mark another small smooth-hound and a few bream were caught. Despite a cool NE breeze, a good day was had by all.
Results:
1st Robin Lane 146 points, 2nd Dave Wood 133 points, 3rd Jane Hopkins 91 points, 4th Marc Duncan 88 points and 5th John Wood 75 points.

The club held the 6th Large Boat competition which took place on Sunday 13th July from Poole aboard "Ocean Runner" skippered by Ryan Jones. With slack water later on in the day we decided to do some inshore marks for pout, bream, scad and wrasse etc before we pushed out further to deeper water in search of blonde rays and tope. First couple of marks produced bream and pout and Robin Lane caught a scad. A few mackerel were also caught. Marc Duncan and Roy Evans also had a couple of ballan wrasse.
We then went out for the larger fish but unfortunately, we only had a few congers landed by Dave Wood and a couple of bream. Once the tide turned, we moved back inshore for dogfish, and had a slow drift due to the anchor not taking. Jane Hopkins managed to catch a plaice. Another move took us further inshore where Jane, Pete Chamberlain and John Wood had plenty of bream whilst Marc and Robin had several congers each. Marc also had a small blonde ray weighing 6lb 7oz and Pete a nice mackerel of 1lb 5oz.

1st Marc Duncan 148 pts, 2nd Robin Lane 136 pts, 3rd Dave Wood 103 pts,4th Jane Hopkins 77 pts, 5th Glynn Barker 49 pts, 6th John Wood 39 pts.

The club held its 5th Large Boat competition on Sunday 15th June from Mudeford aboard Blue Strike Charters skippered by Dan James. Initially we ventured out to the banks in search of bass. First drift saw Glynn Barker catch one. A few more drifts saw Marc Duncan hook into a decent fish which he only managed to get to the surface before it broke his line.
We then moved to deeper water for tope. Pete Chamberlain caught 2 with the largest weighing 12lbs 3oz, and more tope were caught by Marc, Dave Wood and Roland Blomfield. With the wind freshening we moved to the Ledge in search of bream and pouting. Roy Evans had 4 bream with Dave catching a treble shot of pouting. We then had a drift for pollack but were unsuccessful.
Final drifts saw us off Southbourne for plaice and gurnard. Roland managed to land 2 plaice and a tub gurnard with Jane also having a plaice.
