OPEN COMPETITION RESULTS.

Anglers left floundering by Blomfield.

 

Club member Roland Blomfield won the Flounder Open along with the yellow zone by the only angler to catch 2 flounders for a total weight of 1lb 15.4ozs, runner up was Andy Hopkins with a 1lb 12oz flounder which was also the heaviest flounder of the day. Colin Saunders came third overall and won the red zone with a 1lb 9.8oz flounder. Bob Dore and Roland Blomfield won the pairs with a 1lb 15.4oz total. The Flounder Open was fished on Sunday 8th January 2012 and saw a total 99 anglers which included 12 juniors whom between them caught 18 flounders. Daniel Stote won the junior section with a flounder weighing 12ozs.

Yellow Zone. Winner - Roland Blomfield 1lb 15.4ozs, Runner-up Andy Hopkins 1lb 12ozs.

Cod Open.

 

  Rod Thompson has done it again by being the top skipper in our Cod Open competition for an amazing third year in a row. We had 81 anglers sign on with over 30 cod being weighed in.
  The top skipper himself came 8th in the competition when a staggering 6 cod were caught aboard 'Random Harvest' with Rob, which included Tom Walker the overall competition winner with a cod of 21lbs 5ozs, runner up was Rob Hustings with a 21lbs 1oz cod,
3rd Danny Mapes 20lbs 11ozs, 4th Neil Brand 20lbs 9ozs, 5th M.Smith 19lbs 7ozs, 6th Steve Batchelor 18lbs 11ozs, 7th Graham White 17lbs 15ozs,
8th Rob Thompson 16lbs110zs, and joint 9th Jackie Saunders and P.Denton each having a 15lbs 12ozs cod. Top pair of the day was Rob Hustings
and Graham White with a combined weight of 39lbs whilst fishing aboard 'Reel Easy', heavest other fish was a bass weighing 9lb 14ozs and caught by Andy Barnes followed by Jackie Saunders with a thornback ray of 8lb 1oz. The top private skipper of the day was Steve Batchelor, 10 cod caught between 3 anglers.

  Loni's Angling Centre would like to thank everyone that helped on the day but most of all Rich Rickman for all the time and effort he put into running the Cod Open and making it an enjoyable day for all of those who attended.
 

Summer Open.

 

This was held on the Lymington and Pennington Sea Wall on Saturday 10th September with a nuch lower than normal turn out. Only 26 anglers entered catching smoothhound, pout, eels and bass. The weather threatened to be wet and windy but it turned out to be good conditions for the
match.
It was abit of a family affair with Andrew Dawkins taking 1st place with 3 smoothhounds and 1 eel totaling 12lbs 5ozs.
1st Andrew Dawkins 12lbs 5ozs.
2nd Michael Dawkins 10lbs 6.2ozs.
3rd Malcolm Stote 7lb 9ozs.
4th Dan Stote {jnr} 6lb 12.4ozs.
5th Damien Gelard 3lb 6.4ozs.
6th Matt Brook 2lb 14.8ozs.
Andrew and Micheal Dawkins took the two man team event with 22lbs 11.2ozs.
Dan Stote was top junior with 6lb 12.4ozs and also catching the biggest fish of the competition a smoothhound of 96cm which was measured and returned and that was 6lb 4ozs on the weight to length conversion chart.

Charity Open Report.

 

Earlier this year Hannah Powell approached the Lymington Sea Fishing Club's committee for help with running an open fishing competition for charity, namely MacMillan Cancer Support, It was successfully agreed and after a few meetings a format for the match was agreed and Hannah got to work approaching the local tackle shops for some prize donations of which al gave generously and thanks must go to Ashley Angling, Bells of Hythe, Christchurch Angling Centre, Loni's Angling Centre and Lymington Tackle, Also thanks to all the people who helped on the day of the match and the anglers who turned out to support the event. Although the turn out was not as big as hoped Hannah made £285 for her charity so THANKS again to you all.
The winner of the event was Matt Finn in blue zone with 15 fish all bass for a total score of 333cm.

Blue Zone winner Matt Finn 333cm, 2nd Callum Graham 177cm.
Red zone winner Chris Ellis 216cm, 2nd Matt Brook 111cm.
Yellow zone winner Darren James 210cm, 2nd Steve Deathe 196cm.

The biggest fish in blue zone was a golden grey mullet of 37cm and caught by Nick Hayter. The biggest fish in red zone was a golden grey mullet also 37cm and in yellow zone the biggest fish was also a golden grey mullet of 37cm and caught by Steve Deathe.
The amount of golden grey mullet that was caught was unusual. In total there were 10 caught along with 3 flounders, 4 gilt head bream, 1 eel and 70 school bass.
