CLUB NEWS.
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL CLUB MEMBERS: BALANCED SEAS PROJECT MEETING 14TH SEPTEMBER 2010.
Members may be aware of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009. This Act allows for the creation of a new type of Marine Protected Area known as a Marine Conservation Zone. the purpose of these areas is to protect marine life and their habitats, which may result in restriciting some marine activities, particularly those that cause damage. The creation of these zones could therefore have a very important impact upon all anglers' activities and indeed the future of our club. It is intended that these areas will be designated by the Government by June 2012.
The Balanced Seas project area extends from the Hampshire/Dorset border to just north of the Suffolk/Essex border and includes the Solent. It extends to midway across the English Channel.
Sea Anglers are being given the opportunity to meet with a Balanced Seas Liaison Officer and to contribute to the project with information about the areas important to them. To this end a meeting has been arranged for Tuesday 14th September at 7.30pm at the Clubhouse to listen to a short presentation by Amy Pryor, who will answer any questions. This will be followed by a mapping exercise. It is important that we have a mix of boat and shore anglers present in order to provide as much information as possible.

Dan Stote's Experience in Portugal.
On 25th March, I went to Portugal to fish in the Junior World Championships. Therewere 5 of us in the team: myself, Michael Dawkins, Callum Graham (Christchurch), David Morris (Deal) and Steven Rathbone (Bridport). In the first few days the weather was pretty poor considering we were in Portugal. We had been expecting it to be hot and sunny, not wet and windy with rough seas. However, the weather did improve and was quite sunny for the rest of our stay. We were able to catch a few fish which were golden grey mullet, red bream, garfish, turbot and a few mackerel.
We stayed in a really nice villa, which had a pool. The beaches were great too and very clean. We came second and got silver medals. The presentation evening was brilliant and we had loads of fun. Going up to receive our medals was awesome and I felt very proud. By Dan Stote.
